MARSHFIELD CLINIC PRESCRIBES NETEZZA’S DATA WAREHOUSE APPLIANCE FOR BETTER, COST-EFFECTIVE PATIENT CARE

One of the Largest Private Medical Practices in the United States Selects Netezza Appliance for its Data Warehouse Platform

Framingham, Mass. — May 12, 2008 — Netezza Corporation (NYSE Arca: NZ), the global leader in data warehouse and analytic appliances, today announced that Marshfield Clinic, one of the largest private, multispecialty group practices in the United States, has selected the Netezza appliance as its strategic data warehouse platform.

Marshfield Clinic provides primary, secondary and tertiary care, with 86 medical specialties and subspecialties with physicians and other staff in more than 40 locations throughout central, northern and western Wisconsin. The Clinic system also includes clinical laboratory services.

The Clinic’s successful 90-year history of providing patient care depends on the speedy analysis of data. However, the performance of its previous provider could not keep pace with the Clinic’s growing volumes of data generated by patient accounts, insurance records, patient episode and drug interaction information and laboratory results; and the need for rapid and accurate response. In addition, costs to maintain its existing system were becoming too expensive. After careful evaluation, the Clinic chose the Netezza appliance for its scalable, cost-effective approach to data warehousing and its tremendous performance gains.

“Analyzing our financial and operational performance and our clinical information helps the Clinic provide for our patients’ needs – now and in the future,” said Carl Christensen, chief information officer, Marshfield Clinic. “Netezza’s performance in terms of handling data loads and query responses is tremendous, improving our responsiveness, and represents a fraction of the initial and long-term cost of older enterprise data warehouse approaches.”

“Today’s announcement underscores the critical need healthcare organizations have for cost-effective data warehouse options that can quickly analyze data for clinical, operational or regulatory purposes,” said Jim Baum, president and COO at Netezza Corporation. “The Netezza appliance is fast becoming the price/performance leader for medical centers like Marshfield Clinic to help them thrive and expand in today’s fast-paced climate of health services delivery.”

The Netezza Performance Server® (NPS®) family of data warehouse and analytic appliances is designed specifically for high-performance, terascale analytics and architecturally integrates a relational database, server and storage into a single compact and power-efficient unit. The system’s advantage comes from its patented streaming architecture. Netezza has placed processing power next to the data, so analysis occurs at the source at streaming speeds, delivering an unprecedented 10-100 times the performance of traditional systems at a fraction of the cost. Analyses that took days now take just seconds. This means a dramatic increase in productivity across the enterprise and faster time to value for business initiatives. Netezza appliances are changing the way organizations leverage information, creating a powerful analytic foundation for a new generation of business analytics that improve strategic decision-making and drive results.
