Joint Solution Will Cut Implementation Times in Half, Reduce Costs by Two-Thirds
Retail Systems Conference and Exhibition, Chicago,
Ill.—May 24, 2005—In a move that will create a complete data
warehouse solution for the specialty retail market, Netezza Corporation today
announced that it has formed a partnership with retail software provider QuantiSense.
Through the partnership, Netezza will combine its data warehouse appliance,
the Netezza Performance Server® (NPS®) system, with QuantiSense’s
QS|Retail software package to provide full-scale Business Intelligence (BI)
to specialty store organizations. The joint solution will enable customers to
thoroughly measure the performance of their complex businesses and uncover actionable
information to improve operations.
The partnership allows retailers of all sizes to utilize a complete, low-cost
data warehousing solution, which can handle data sizes ranging from hundreds
of gigabytes to tens of terabytes. The joint solution includes comprehensive
data modeling, extract/transform/load (ETL), retail analytics and best practices
for retail business intelligence consulting. Additionally, the Netezza/QuantiSense
solution requires minimal ongoing support and can be fully operational in half
the time it would take to implement systems from IBM, Oracle and Teradata. For
example, a one terabyte implementation of the joint solution can be up and running
in about 100 days for approximately $750,000 – a significant time and
cost savings over other product offerings on the market.
“This partnership provides a complete BI solution with unprecedented power and flexibility,” said Andy Winans, vice president of Retail & CPG at Netezza. “QuantiSense’s comprehensive data model, data extraction capabilities and full analytics coupled with the speed, flexibility and low cost of the NPS system provide a breakthrough in data warehousing. Netezza and QuantiSense have effectively torn down the time and cost barriers to Business Intelligence, creating a comprehensive solution from ‘silicon to dashboard.’”
The solution’s advantages result from using an appliance-based model rather than more traditional data warehousing architectures. The NPS system, which is being used by leading retailers including Ahold USA, Amazon.com, Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation and The TJX Companies, delivers breakthrough price/performance because it stores, filters and processes terabytes of records within a single unit, while also leveraging commodity hardware and open source technologies. In addition, the flexibility of the NPS system requires minimal database and system administration and frees users from the need to build aggregates or create indexes.
QuantiSense’s QS|Retail application offers easily-deployed yet sophisticated data modeling and an array of quickly configured dashboards, reports, metrics, agents and workflow options. The application also provides data extraction services that join a variety of data sources, providing an accurate and thorough picture of the entire retail operation. QuantiSense’s pre-sales discovery process is also among the best in the industry.
“Comprehensive access to actionable BI information is crucial for retailers
to make decisions about merchandising, inventory management and store operations,”
said Jeff Buck, co-founder of QuantiSense. “Our partnership with Netezza
means that a complete BI solution is now within reach for almost any corporate
retailer – at a cost and implementation speed never before possible.”
