Sun's Zander joins Boston company's board

Sun Microsystems' retiring President and Chief Operating Officer Ed Zander has joined the board of Netezza, a Boston-based startup.

Zander -- the latest in a string of five executive departures from the embattled hardware company -- leaves Sun July 1, ending a 15-year career at
the $18 billion dollar per annum company he helped build.  On the Netezza board, Zander joins David Schantz of Matrix Partners; Ted Dintersmith of Charles River Ventures; Ollie Curme of Battery Ventures, and Netezza co-founders Jit Saxena and Foster Hinshaw.

The two-year-old company provides a platform for managing and navigating business information, quickly and cheaply.  Netezza, which targets Fortune 1000 companies as potential customers, scored $20 million in funding in March from Battery Ventures, Matrix Partners and Charles River Ventures brining the total war chest to $28 million.
