NETEZZA CEO NAMED ERNST & YOUNG NEW ENGLAND ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR

Jit Saxena Recognized for Leading Netezza to Early Success in Business Intelligence Market

Framingham, Mass.—July 7, 2003—Netezza Corporation today announced that Co-Founder and CEO Jit Saxena has been named an Ernst & Young New England Entrepreneur Of The Year in the “Emerging” category. Winners were announced at an awards banquet on June 26 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. Saxena was one of 15 winners selected from 64 finalists by an independent panel of judges including entrepreneurs and prominent leaders from academia, business and the media.

Netezza, a privately held company, has created the world’s first purpose-built, integrated business intelligence (BI) platform that transforms slow and expensive BI activities into agile information at half the cost of existing systems.

Under Saxena’s leadership, the company has raised more than $33 million in funding from top venture capitalists. Saxena has also implemented an aggressive sales and partnership strategy with great early success.

In addition, Saxena was able to quickly recruit an experienced management team with executives from nearly every major computing vendor in the industry including Sun, Compaq, Cisco and Teradata.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Ernst & Young and I am extremely proud of all that Netezza has been able to achieve in a short amount of time,” said Saxena. “Our technology has the power to transform core business activities by allowing companies to make business decisions at the speed of thought. This is an award for all the employees at Netezza, whose hard work and dedication is enabling our partners and customers to fully realize the benefits of business intelligence technology.”

The Ernst & Young award is the latest in a series of widespread industry praise for the Netezza team and solution. InformationWeek named Saxena an “Innovator and Influencer for 2003.” Netezza CTO and Co-Founder Foster Hinshaw was recently named a “2003 InfoWorld Innovator.” Attendees at the Datacenter Ventures Conference held by Technologic Partners last year voted Netezza “most likely to succeed.” And a recent IDC Research study called Netezza “a business analytics revolution in the making.”

As a regional recipient, Saxena is now a candidate for Ernst & Young’s National Entrepreneur of the Year Award, to be announced this November at a ceremony in Palm Springs, California. The award is designed to honor outstanding entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Founded and produced by Ernst & Young LLP and nationally co-sponsored by USA Today, CNN, The Nasdaq Stock Market and the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the awards are sponsored locally by The British Midlands, The Boston Business Journal, Citigroup Private Bank, Hale and Dorr LLP, J. Robert Scott and Marsh. More information may be found at: http://www.ey.com/us/eoy.
